Things you should Consider before Buying the Best Vlogging Camera

There are some key features to look at while picking best vlogging cameras whereas there are some features which aren’t much important.

It is important to give priority to the features you need in a vlogging camera so that you don’t waste money on features you don’t need.

So here I list the features which are important (also which aren’t) before you purchase your vlog camera.

Low Light Performance

While looking at the list of the best vlogging cameras, the low light performance of a vlog camera is an important feature that you need to look in a vlogging camera.

I don’t think I need to explain why this feature is important. As having a vlogging camera with good low light performance will let you shoot your vlog in more low light environments.

Like you may record a vlog in the night time, or evening time, or maybe your room in low light conditions.

You may have noticed while recording at night time your video produces some noise or grains in the video (which ruin the video quality). Choosing a good vlogging camera having good recording quality in low light won’t produce much those noise or grains in the video.

So even at low lighting conditions, you’ll be able to produce more good quality videos (and that’s what you need).

There are some features which contribute to the recording quality in low light conditions, these are:

ISO

Image stabilisation comparison

ISO refers to the sensitivity of the image sensor to light.

The lower the value of ISO the less sensitive it is to light. Similarly the more the value of the ISO the more sensitive it is to light.

For eg. ISO is set to 100 that means not so sensitive, but when ISO is set to 1600 that means it is extremely sensitive to light.

However, it is adjustable, you can adjust ISO according to your environment you are shooting your vlog.

Aperture

Aperture

Aperture is an opening or hole which controls the amount of light entering the camera through the lens.

A large aperture at f/2 means a wide opening so more light passes through to the image sensor to perform better in dark environments. Whereas smaller aperture like f/22 means a small opening so less light passes through to the image sensor.

So the bottom line is the larger the aperture is the better will perform in low lighting conditions.

Sensor

A sensor of the camera is responsible to receive the light coming through the lens into the camera and turn that light into an image.

It is actually a frame in which light is projected onto.

That means the larger the sensor the more light it will be able to project which will produce more high-quality videos.

Professional cameras have large sensors and are also known as full frame cameras.

However, you don’t really need the biggest one. As these days even the beginner/intermediate level cameras these days have a good quality sensor.

Sound Quality

Well after the video quality and performance, the next thing you should consider is the sound quality of the camera you’re going to vlog with.

What’s the purpose of the vlog if no one understands what you’re speaking about in your vlog.

Vlogging cameras these days come with awesome built-in microphones in the camera which can record awesome audio quality. But that includes background noise too.

If you’re going to record in your room where there isn’t much noise, then a good microphone won’t be as critical.

But if you’re recording in a noisy environment then a good microphone is important for clear audio.

A better way to record more clear audio is by using an external microphone which can be plugged into our vlogging camera via the jack or USB port.

Battery Life

Battery life of a vlogging camera is also an important factor for you to know much your vlog camera can withstand before powering down.

There are vlogging cameras which shoots incredible videos but the battery life aren’t that great. You may don’t have access to charging points all the time.

However, you can always carry an external battery for your vlogging camera as a backup.

Choose the Best Vlogging Camera according to YOUR NEEDS (Most Important)

Well, the above-mentioned points were that what you should always consider before purchasing a camera for your vlog.

But the most important factor for choosing your vlogging camera is YOUR NEEDS.

Yes in order to choose the best vlogging camera you should always choose a vlog camera according to whatever your needs are.

Before picking your vlogging camera do once ask these questions to yourself:

What type of Videos will I be Recording? Where will I be Recording my Vlog?

For example, if you are going to record while surfing, bike riding or maybe skydiving then a GoPro or any other action camera will be the best one to provide crisp and clear video while withstanding the tough conditions & environment while recording.

If you are going to buy a vlogging camera for travel vlog then you may consider a vlog camera with a larger battery. Or maybe a vlog camera with an easily replaceable battery so you can carry and make use of an extra battery as a backup.

If you’re recording in your room then features like image stabilization is not required much, while the color intensity and the quality would be beneficial.

However, you might not be totally sure about where will you be recording your vlog. But you can have a clear idea about your requirements i.e what type of camera and what type of features you need for your vlogging journey.

What is my Budget?

So till now, you might have figured out what features you need in your vlogging camera, what kind of videos you’ll be recording, where you’ll be recording etc. Now it’s time to decide which will be the best vlogging camera under your budget.

I’ve tried my best to feature the best vlogging cameras overall according to the price range in the list above.

But it may happen that the feature which is your priority isn’t available or not good in the camera at that price tag.

So you should always combine your budget and your priority features to choose the best vlogging cameras.

  1. Hello,
I was a little skeptical buying a GoPro knockoff, but this little camera is AWESOME. I used to work in broadcast television, so I know quality video when I see it! My only issue was that there is nothing included to indicate what every little accessory is, and how to use it. I’ve never in my life had to use directions to put anything together, and have always prided myself in being a master puzzle solver, and great at troubleshooting/figuring things out. I’m stumped on some of these accessories though.
